FL Man Stole Gun From Firearms Dealer: U.S. Justice Department

A North Port man has pleaded guilty of stealing a gun from a firearms dealer in Charlotte County, the U.S. Department of Justice said.

FORT MYERS, FL — A North Port man has pleaded guilty of stealing a gun from a firearms dealer, according to a U.S. Department of Justice news release.

Michael O’Brien, 48, faces up to 10 years in federal prison. He has also agreed to forfeit the stolen gun.

A sentencing date hasn’t been set yet.

O’Brien went into a federal firearms dealer in Charlotte County, concealed a pistol that was on display and left the store without paying for it, according to his Jan. 17 plea agreement.

When confronted by a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives employee later that night, O’Brien had the stolen gun on him, the DOJ said.
