FL Proud Boy Gets Prison Time For Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol Breach: DOJ
An Englewood Proud Boy assaulted 2 officers, which led to the initial breach of the U.S. Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. DOJ said.

ENGLEWOOD, FL — A Florida Proud Boy was sentenced Wednesday to 60 months in federal prison for felony charges related to the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol building during a joint session of the U.S. Congress to count the electoral votes for the 2020 presidential election.
Daniel Lyons Scott, 29, of Englewood was also sentenced to 36 months of supervised release and ordered to pay $2,000 in restitution to the architect of the Capitol, according to a U.S. Department of Justice news release.
He pleaded guilty on Feb. 9 to the charges of obstruction of an official proceeding and assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers.

Scott, a member of the Proud Boys organization who goes by the nickname “Milkshake,” and co-defendant Christopher Worrell were involved in discussions leading up to Jan. 6 on the encrypted messaging app Telegram about ways to block the congressional certification of the Electoral College vote, the DOJ said.
Days before the Capitol riot, on Jan. 3, 2021, he and other Proud Boys attended a rally protesting the 2020 election in Naples. During the rally, Scott yelled to the crowd that if a specific Florida U.S. senator, not named in the news release, didn’t vote against certifying the vote, they “should give him the rope,” the DOJ said.

On Jan. 6, 2021, he traveled from his Washington, D.C., hotel to the Washington Monument to meet with Worrell and other Proud Boys members. He wore a bulletproof vest underneath his jacket.
As the group walked toward the east side of the Capitol building, Scott yelled to the group, “Let’s take the (expletive) Capitol,” according to the court.
Just before 1 p.m., he and other Proud Boys illegally entered the Capitol grounds after the police lines were breached. He, Worrell and others then moved near the front of the line facing law enforcement officers on the lower west plaza.
Around 2 p.m., while standing in front of the northwest stairs of the west terrace and facing two U.S. Capitol police officers guarding the staircase, Scott suddenly moved up the stairs and pushed both officers backward, the DOJ said. He pulled one officer back into the crowd of rioters, where the officer was additionally assaulted.
His assault breached the police line, allowing the crowd behind him to surge up to the upper west terrace, the agency said. This group was the first crowd of rioters to enter the Capitol building.
Shortly after the assault, Worrell filmed Scott, who can be heard yelling, “Proud of your (expletive) boy.”
Worrell can also be heard celebrating the crowd’s surge of the stairs by yelling, “Yeah, taking the Capitol!”
He was found guilty of all charges during a bench trial on May 12. Worrell is awaiting sentencing.
