Fruitville Road Meeting Set For March 1

Possible enhancements are being considered that would slow down traffic along Fruitville Road.

SARASOTA, FL — Sarasota residents who want to learn more about possible upcoming changes along Fruitville Road will want to put Tuesday, March 1 down on their calendars.

The City of Sarasota plans to host a community meeting March 1 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Commission Chambers at City Hall, 1565 First Street, with possible Fruitville Road enhancements up for discussion. The focus area for the project runs between U.S. 301 and U.S. 41.

The aim of the proposed Fruitville Road Streetscape Enhancement project is to modify the road to more closely reflect an urban boulevard, the city wrote in a media release. This gateway into the city and its downtown business directly currently has the character of a suburban thoroughfare, the city noted.

“The goal is to slow down traffic along Fruitville Road (between U.S. 301 and U.S. 41) without negatively impacting the current rate of service, while boosting pedestrian connectivity between downtown and the nearby Gillespie Park and Rosemary District neighborhoods,” the city noted.
