A NY woman wanted for reckless homicide in Indiana was taken into custody in Venice, the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office said.
VENICE, FL — A fugitive wanted for “serious charges,” including reckless homicide, in Indiana, was arrested Feb. 17 in Venice, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office said.
Adria P. Wilkerson, 31, wanted in Grant County, Indiana, was found at a relative’s home in Florida.
After learning about the warrant, deputies set up surveillance on the home and spotted Wilkerson in a vehicle driven by her relative. She was taken into custody without incident during a traffic stop.

She is being held at the Sarasota County Correctional Facility, awaiting extradition to Indiana.
The warrant for Wilkerson’s arrest stems from an Oct. 1 fatal vehicle crash on State Road 18 in front of Oak Hill High School, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. Another driver, Vickie Colley, died from injuries caused by the crash.

Before crashing into a vehicle driven by Colley around 4 p.m., Wilkerson was first seen driving a BMW through a stop sign, passing a vehicle and a school bus, plowing through a farmer’s fence, and ending up in a cow pasture, Fox 59 reported.
When she returned to the road, deputies found she had been involved in a head-on collision with Colley’s vehicle, Fox said.
Wilkerson was able to get out of her vehicle, which was on fire, with help from bystanders, and was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries, reports said.
Colley was trapped inside her vehicle until first responders removed her from it and brought to an area hospital, where she died from her injuries.
Wilkerson’s family told investigators that she had left her home in Corinth, New York, days before the crash and had a history of suicidal ideology, WTHR reported.
