Halfacre Construction Company, the area's oldest, locally owned and operated private commercial construction company, was recently awarded a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) silver certification for the company’s work on the Lockheed Martin Tallevast Remediation Facility at 1600 Tallevast Road in Tallevast, Fla.
Completed in March 2013, Halfacre Construction Company was subcontracted to design and build the $2.7 million-dollar, 14,000-square-foot building, which houses the water treatment equipment and offices.
Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, LEED is a green building certification program that recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices. The certification is intended to help building owners and operators be environmentally responsible and utilize resources efficiently.

To receive LEED certification, building projects satisfy prerequisites and earn points to achieve different levels of certification. Prerequisites and credits differ for each rating system.
