Help Name Sarasota's Newest Police Horse

Voting is open through June 26.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has a new deputy on the beat. This one has four legs, but doesn’t have a name as of yet.

That’s why the agency is turning to the public for help in selecting an appropriate name for the 6-year-old bay thoroughbred. The critter stands 16.2 hands tall and was donated to the sheriff’s office by the Carson Springs Wildlife Conservation Foundation.

“He spent time learning alongside an experienced horse and patrolled retail centers last Christmas as well as Siesta Key Beach during spring break,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a release announcing the horse’s arrival. “His hoofed colleagues include Honor, Patriot, Major, Legacy, Sentinel, Valor, Justice and Charlie.”
