Dec. 5, 2013 / Sarasota, Fla. — The Church of the Redeemer recently published a beautiful new booklet, "Holy, Holy, Holy," and has made the booklet available online and in the church's pew racks and narthex. The 16-page full-color booklet explains the complex imagery in the 30-foot-long icon installed adjacent to the ceiling over the church's sanctuary. The icon was created in 2010 by the world-renowned religious iconographer and Romanian Orthodox Nun Sister Eliseea Papacioc.
Papacioc first visited Redeemer in 2009, to speak about and show her work. The church, with the support of the family of George and Mary Ann Bloodworth, later commissioned the icon. Papacioc spent nearly a week in 2010 working on a 30-foot-high scaffolding, and the piece was officially dedicated in June 2011.
The new booklet, written by Redeemer's Rector, The Very Rev. Fredrick A. Robinson, tells the story of how the icon was created, and delves into the intricate, historical and powerful imagery of the icon itself. A series of crisp and colorful high-resolution photographs taken by parishioner Raul Elizalde show close-ups of the icon's symbols, including the crucifix, angels, the face of Jesus, and other religious symbols. The images showcase the intimate craftsmanship of Papacioc's work.
