‘Joke’ Bomb Threat Leads To Arrest Of Venice Student: Sarasota Schools
A Venice High School student was arrested for making a bomb threat against the school on social media, Sarasota County Schools said.
VENICE, FL — A student faces charges after making a “joke” bomb threat against Venice High School, Sarasota County Schools wrote in a post on Twitter.
The threat, which was made on social media, was reported anonymously to school authorities through the FortifyFL app.
The student, who told the Sarasota County Schools Police Department that the threat was a “joke,” was arrested. The student’s age, gender and specific charges weren’t shared.

“Families, please consider going over School Board policy 5.32 with your child to ensure they understand these extremely serious school rules and expectations,” the district wrote. “Our school district has a zero-tolerance policy. Any student found to be making a threat against a school — be it verbal, written, or electronically — will be investigated by law enforcement and possibly arrested or removed from school. We take the safety and security of our school community extremely seriously.”
