SARASOTA, FL — Lockdown was lifted Thursday morning at Riverview High School in Sarasota, Sarasota County Schools tweeted around 9 a.m.

“Riverview’s campus has been cleared and there is no threat to students of staff,” the district wrote.

The school at 1 Ram Way went into lockdown around 8:15 a.m., the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Facebook post.

An internal alarm was triggered at the school, leading to a response by the Sarasota County Schools Police Department and the sheriff’s office.

“Sheriff’s deputies and school police, in an abundance of caution, locked the school down and established a perimeter around the school while each staff member was accounted for and all classrooms and surrounding areas were checked,” SCSO wrote in its post.

The agency’s Aviation Unit watched over the school during the lockdown.

Sheriff’s office units are clearing the scene.
