Lost Ducks Escorted To Payne Park By Sarasota Police Officer: Watch
Watch: A Sarasota Police Department sergeant helped a confused mother duck and her ducklings find their way to the Payne Park pond.

SARASOTA, FL — An officer escorted a flock of lost ducks from the Sarasota Police Department headquarters across the street to Payne Park on Tuesday. (Watch the bodycam video footage below.)
“There’s no such thing as a typical day as a Sarasota Police officer! When Sergeant Schafer woke up at the quack of dawn on Tuesday, we don’t think he planned to give a flock of ducks a police escort to the pond at Payne Park,” Sarasota police wrote on Facebook. “It’s okay, he was able to wing it! Next time, he will have to put it on their bill.”
SPD shared the bodycam footage of Schafer escorting a mother duck and her six ducklings to the park.

In the video, he can be heard redirecting them, telling them, “No, no, no, no, no,” as they went in the direction away from the park.
“It’s like herding cattle,” Schafer said, at one point.

As the ducks approached the street, he directed them, “Make sure we don’t get hit.”
He also warned another office outside headquarters in an SPD vehicle, “They’re right behind you. Actually, they’re going right underneath you now; don’t move.”
