Man, 19, Arrested In Stabbing That Seriously Injured Victim In Sarasota: Sheriff

SARASOTA, FL — A 19-year-old man was arrested after a stabbing left another man seriously injured Saturday night, the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

Deputies were dispatched shortly after 11 p.m. to a reported stabbing at a home in the 5100 block of Lahaina Drive in Sarasota.

When deputies arrived, they found a man in front of the home suffering from stab wounds and significant blood loss, the sheriff’s office said.

The victim lost consciousness while deputies were assessing him, and they began performing CPR on him. He was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for emergency surgery.

The suspect, 19-year-old Yordi David Lopez Fuentes, refused to leave the home after being ordered to come outside, SCSOP said.

Deputies then used less-lethal pepper-ball munitions and assistance from a K9 unit to take Lopez Fuentes into custody.

Lopez Fuentes was charged with attempted second-degree murder and was being held at the Sarasota County Correctional Facility on a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer, deputies said.

His identity hadn’t been confirmed with official government identification from either Guatemala or the United States as of Monday afternoon, the sheriff’s office said.

No information about what led to the stabbing was provided.
