NORTH PORT, FL — A man, two cats and two dogs were killed in a fire at a North Port home Saturday afternoon, officials said.

North Port Fire Rescue responded to check on an extinguished fire at the home in the 3800 block of Trenton Lane just after noon.

Firefighters reported no visible fire from outside the home when they arrived, NPFR wrote in a Facebook post.

As they made their way inside to investigate, they found an extinguished fire that seemed to have started in the single-story home’s kitchen.

Smoke and soot were also seen throughout the home, which they ventilated to ensure the fire was completely out.

They found the man’s body in a rear bedroom of the home and later discovered his four pets had also died in the blaze, NPFR said.

There weren’t any working smoke alarms in the home when the fire broke out, the agency said.

The North Port Police Department and the state fire marshal are investigating.
