Man Bit By Gator Near Lake Manatee Fish Camp: FWC

MYAKKA CITY, FL — A Sarasota man was seriously injured after being bitten by an alligator Wednesday afternoon near Lake Manatee Fish Camp in Myakka City, authorities said.

Eric Merda, 43, was bitten on his arm around 5:30 p.m. and brought to a hospital for treatment, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation said in a news release.

The FWC, Manatee County Sheriff’s Office and Manatee County EMS all responded to the scene.

A nuisance alligator trapper contracted through the FWC was sent to the area where the gator attack happened, the agency said. The incident is under investigation.
