Man Dead After Single-Vehicle Crash In Siesta Key: FHP

The Florida Highway Patrol says the man tried to turn left on Midnight Pass Road at a red light. A passenger was also injured in the crash.

SIESTA KEY, FL —One person has died and another is in critical condition after a single-vehicle crash on Sunday in Siesta Key.

The Florida Highway Patrol says a driver was going west on Stickney Point Road, approaching Midnight Pass Road, around 12:40 a.m. when he failed to stop while trying to make a left hand turn at a red light.

The car collided with a pole and caught on fire. The driver and a 37-year-old passenger, both male, were transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital in critical condition. The driver, 28, was later pronounced dead.

Both men are residents of Sarasota.

The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
