A 53-year-old Nokomis man is dead following a swimming accident at North Jetty Park Sunday.According to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a water rescue call at 6:33 p.m. at the park. There they found two swimmers, a man and a woman, in distress about 100 yards offshore.Three people on surf boards paddled out to help and the county's Marine Unit also responded. The surfers were able to pull the woman on board. The man, however, was unconscious when they pulled him out of the water.Back on the shore, paramedics tried to revive the male. He was taken to Venice Regional Bayfront Health, the sheriff's office said, where he was pronounced dead.The man has been identified as Vincent Charles Daniels. His girlfriend, Melody James, did not require medical treatment.
