Man in Wheelchair Killed in Hit-And-Run Crash

Police are trying to find the motorist involved in the Sarasota man's death.

The Sarasota Police Department is looking for help identifying the motorist involved in a fatal Tuesday night hit-and-run crash.

The accident occurred around 8:45 p.m. at the intersection of 17th Street and U.S. 301. Police say Michael Wright, 48, was crossing the intersection in his wheelchair, in the crosswalk, when he was struck by a vehicle.

No witnesses have come forward, so officers have little information in the case, an email to media stated.

Wright was taken to a local hospital for treatment, but died Wednesday morning, police said.

ā€œThere is a red light camera at the intersection of 17th Street and U.S. 301,ā€ police noted in the email. ā€œOfficers are working to retrieve that video from the red light camera company however it could take several weeks.ā€
