Marco Rubio Lays the Smack Down on FSU

He let his orange and blue show during a recent Iowa radio interview.

Republican presidential hopeful Marco Rubio might represent the entire state of Florida in the U.S. Senate, but that doesn’t mean he won’t show a little bias for his own alma mater.

He did just that, in fact, during a recent interview on a sports talk radio show on KNXO 1460 AM in Des Moines, Iowa. Talking football, the University of Florida graduate laid some smack down at the expense of Florida State University.

ā€œLook, I don’t have anything against Florida State,ā€ Rubio said. ā€œI think there has to be a school where people that can’t get into Florida can go to college. And, so that’s why we have Florida State.ā€

Rubio, a Miami native, earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and went on to the University of Miami’s law school.

While it’s clear where he stands on the UF/FSU rivalry, he draws the line when it’s time to root for the Hurricanes. ā€œI grew up in Miami. I’m a Gators fan, but I don’t root against the Hurricanes.ā€
