Middle School Student Brought Weapon To Campus: Sarasota Schools

A student was taken into custody after bringing a weapon to Woodland Middle School in North Port, Sarasota County Schools said.

NORTH PORT, FL — A student was taken into custody after being found with a weapon Wednesday morning at a North Port middle school, according to a Sarasota County Schools news release.

Woodland Middle School’s administrative team worked closely with the Sarasota County Schools Police Department to apprehend the student after learning they brought a weapon on campus.

No additional information, including age and gender, of the student was provided

“Thanks to the swift action of the school’s administrative and security teams, there is no threat to Woodland Middle students, teachers or staff members,” according to a statement from the school district. “The SCSPD is currently conducting a thorough investigation concerning the incident.”
