Missing 4-Year-Old Girl Found Dead Near Port Charlotte Canal: Sheriff

PORT CHARLOTTE, FL — A 4-year-old girl staying with her family in a Port Charlotte home rented through VRBO was found dead near a canal after going missing early Friday morning, the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office wrote in a Facebook post.

VRBO is an online market place for vacation and other short-term rentals.

The body of Evelyn K. Geer was discovered along the water's edge down the canal behind the Barksdale Street home where they were staying, the agency said.

Her body was found by the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission, who were searching for her by boat. The sheriff's office's aviation and bloodhound units also assisted in the search.

"Please keep the family in your prayers as they go through this unbearable time," the sheriff's office said.
