Missing Charlotte County Woman Has Sarasota, Bradenton Ties

She's been missing since Oct. 11.

The front door of Katy McDonald’s Port Charlotte home was left unlocked and her keys were found about 300 feet from her door.

Katy, however, hasn’t been seen since Oct. 11.

That’s why the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office and McDonald’s family are reaching out to those in nearby counties to see if anyone has seen the 34-year-old woman who’s known for her generosity.

Although she now calls Port Charlotte home, Katy has lived in both Bradenton and Sarasota in the past, her older brother Andrew McDonald said. She suffers from bipolar disorder, but is stabilized on medication, he said. She has never disappeared like this before, he added.

“Something doesn’t fit,” Andrew said of Katy’s disappearance. “She’s not one to disappear.”

Andrew said his little sister recently closed a shared bank account with her mother and may have been carrying a substantial amount of money on her at the time of her disappearance.

He’s worried foul play may be a factor considering the cash, but he’s just not sure.

While a full load of Katy’s laundry was left in a machine at her complex – something family members say she wouldn’t do since it would inconvenience neighbors – her blue guitar was missing from her home.

“Katy is considerate of her neighbors so the washing machine situation is concerning to our family along with the keys being found in that lot,” Beth McDonald, Katy’s oldest sister wrote in an email to Patch. “Her phone was broke and not working and was also left in the apartment.”

Both McDonalds ask that anyone with information about Katy’s whereabouts call the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office at 941-639-2101. The sheriff’s office has issued a missing endangered adult alert on the case.
