Missing Diver Found Alive Off Englewood Coast By U.S. Coast Guard
A missing Florida diver was found alive in waters near Manasota Key, Sarasota County Sheriff's Office said. Watch scenes from the rescue.
ENGLEWOOD, FL — A missing diver was found alive Thursday about six miles off the coast of Englewood, the U.S. Coast Guard’s Southeast District posted on its Facebook page. (Watch some of the rescue efforts below.)
He was located not far from the barrier island of Manasota Key, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office shared on its Facebook page.
A boat crew from the U.S. Coast Guard station in Cortez found the diver and stopped his vessel from taking on water.

The diver and two others were able to return to shore on their own boat while being escorted by the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit, the Coast Guard said.
The U.S. Coast Guard air station in Clearwater, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, the Sarasota Police Department, Englewood Area Fire Control District, and the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission also responded to the search for the missing diver.

“The effort to teamwork was on full display today. A life was saved,” the Cortez Coast Guard station posted on its Facebook page. “Encompassing multiple agencies with a common goal of helping others. The immediate response to maritime distress is what we train for.”
