Mom’s Letter After Cops Surprise Autistic Boy Says It All

When no one responded to the Florida boy's birthday party invitations, the North Port Police Department took action.

North Port, FL — Fearing another year of unanswered birthday party invitations and another year of heartache for their little boy, Carolyn and Dan Nicastro decided to make a proactive move to spare their child tears during his celebration.

Knowing Daniel adores police officers, the North Port couple thought it might be worth dropping off a few invitations for men and women in blue. They weren’t sure what to expect, and no promises were made when the invitations were dropped off at the North Port Police Department. Even so, the couple hoped someone from the agency would show up and make their little autistic boy’s birthday party dreams come true.

That hope materialized in a way that was bigger than the Nicastros could have imagined. Officers not only took up the couple’s invitation, they did so in force.

Carolyn Nicastro’s words of thanks to the officers of the North Port Police Department say it all:

It was my son Daniel's 8th birthday. No one called to say they were coming to his birthday party. Both myself and his father were heartbroken (it’s happened before). He absolutely adores the police and calls all of you his Super Heroes. He is autistic so making friends is extremely difficult for him. His father (Dan) and I remembered the past 2 years of no one showing up for his birthday parties, he would spend the day crying that he had no friends. We could not let that happen again. So when it came closer to the day of his party and nobody called, we decided to be proactive and bring invitations to the police department. We were not given any promises. We just hoped. Daniel had no idea.
While playing with his cousin Adam Sunday at McKibben Park he saw a large line of police cars coming down the road. He was so excited! His favorite friends came to his party. He is still talking about it being the best birthday ever! Thank you North Port Police Department.
You made my son's birthday extra special with his favorite super heroes!

The North Port Police Department shared the story and the couple’s words of thanks on its Facebook page Monday.

"We could all use a happy story right about now,” the agency said. “Glad we could assist.”
