More Than a Brown Bag Experience

Serving gourmet sandwiches from its downtown Sarasota location for over a year, Michelle's Brown Bag Cafe is more than just a sandwich shop.

With a bright, airy, and cheerful location on 32 S. Osprey Ave, has been serving breakfast and lunch to the downtown Sarasota community for a little more than a year.

Although Michelle Connor grew up in Florida, the origins of Michelle’s Brown Bag Café go back to 2005 in Bar Harbor Maine where Michelle started her seasonal (May-Oct) gourmet sandwich shop. Even though her seasonal gourmet sandwich shop was a hit, she longed to return to Florida. Realizing the concept behind Michelle’s Brown Bag Café could work in Sarasota, Michelle moved herself and the business to its current downtown location in 2010.

The menu offers a range of fresh breads, salads, specialty sandwiches, and coffee with a small children’s menu as well. For our meals we chose the following:

    • A fresh, hearty sandwich with a great blend of flavors and textures.
  • Fresh Albacore Tuna Salad: Served with a choice of bread, veggies, spreads, and a side.  $6.50, add extras like cheese, bacon, or avocado for $1.00-$1.50 more
    • A large sandwich fully loaded; tasty and filling.
  • Farmer’s Market Salad: Fresh baby greens, mushrooms, tomato, cucumber, sweet pickled red onions, and French bread croutons. $5.95
    • An ample portion, filled with lots of lettuce greens, everything very fresh.
  • Chef Lido: Honey baked ham, smoked turkey, provolone, baby greens, tomato, cucumber, mushrooms, French bread croutons, and pita. $7.95
    • Amply sized, very fresh, colorful, and filling

Even though the menu is chock full of specialty sandwiches, one can design their own if so inclined. Michelle’s offers a nice selection of soft drinks, beer and wine to accompany your meal. Although the café is designed as a counter order, self seat type of place, there are numerous people coming in just for pick up or take out. Needless to say, the service is fast and efficient.

If you are looking for a quick breakfast or lunch but not really interested in traditional fast food, you might want to try Michelle’s Brown Bag Café; high quality food at reasonable prices.
