Nature Valley, Clif Bars Listeria Recalls Issued In Florida
Both companies have issued voluntary recalls related to a national recall of sunflower seeds provided by SunOpta.
TAMPA BAY, FL — Tampa Bay area residents are once again being asked to check their pantries for food items that might be contaminated with Listeria. The two most recent national voluntary recalls were issued by Clif Bars and Nature Valley.
The recalls are related to concerns about possible Listeria contamination of sunflower seeds from SunOpta. That company provides sunflower seeds for Clif Bars and General Mills' Nature Valley products. No reports of illness have been directly related to Nature Valley or Clif Bars products, but both companies are recalling their bars out of an abundance of caution, they said.
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal illnesses in young children, pregnant women, elderly people and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include nausea, pain, diarrhea, severe headache and high fever, among others.
