Osprey Avenue Construction: Stay On Top Of Developments

The City of Sarasota has launched a website to keep residents informed of developments when this project gets under way.

SARASOTA, FL — Sarasota area residents who want to keep up with the $7.3 million Osprey Avenue improvement project when it starts early next year have a place to turn. The city has launched a website dedicated to the topic.

At issue, is a multifaceted project that includes upgrading all utility mains, sidewalks, curbing and driveway aprons along the road. The project will also include resurfacing.

To keep it a little easier for residents to deal with the construction, the project will proceed in two phases, the city said in an email to media. The first phase involves the stretch from Siesta Drive to Bahia Vista Road. It’s set to begin in January 2017.

The second phase of construction will focus on Osprey Avenue from Novus Street to Main Street. Work on that segment is scheduled to start in March 2017.

The $7.3 million budgeted for the project is coming from three main sources, city officials say. Those sources are the city’s local option fuel tax, the penny sales tax and utilities (water/sewer) fees.

“The City’s infrastructure located along this important street no longer provides the level of service to meet our standards,” Bill Swick, City of Sarasota Project Manager, said in a statement. “The City has a continuing program of replacing failing infrastructure and Osprey Avenue’s time has now come. We understand there will be a level of inconvenience and we’ll do our best to minimize the impact. We’re reaching out to residents well in advance so the community is aware of this pending project.”

The city has said it is taking extra measures to ensure the utilities and public works projects are combined and timed to coordinate. This is meant to help limit inconvenience to residents.

Halfacre Construction Company will oversee the project. To keep up with the project, its time schedule and to gain additional information, visit www.OspreyAveImprovements.com.
