Update: Pedestrian Killed in Sarasota Crash

The motorist has been cited with careless driving.

Update Aug. 18, 5:01 p.m.: The Florida Highway Patrol has identified the man killed in Monday morning’s accident as John Patrick McMahon, 45, of Sarasota.

A Monday morning crash on McIntosh Road at Stoney Brook Boulevard has left one person dead.

The Florida Highway Patrol says a Ford Ranger driven by Edward J. Pantera IV, 51, of Osprey was heading east on McIntosh when he struck a pedestrian that was cutting grass in the median.

Pantera failed to negotiate the left curve in the road, struck the curbed median and followed along the curb, a highway patrol media release said. The person mowing was struck by the truck’s windshield and its left side mirror.

Pantera told troopers his vision was blocked due to the sun’s glare. The accident happened around 8:15 a.m.

The highway patrol has not released information about the pedestrian pending notification of family.
