Photos Released of Sarasota Hit-And-Run

The Tuesday evening crash left a 48-year-old man dead.

As the Sarasota Police Department continues its investigation into a fatal hit-and-run crash Tuesday evening, investigators have released photos from the scene.

The crash claimed the life of Michael Wright, 48.

Wright, police said, was crossing the intersection of 17th Street and U.S. 301 around 8:45 p.m. in a wheelchair when he was struck by a vehicle. That vehicle left the scene.

Wright, who was in the crosswalk at the time of the crash, was taken to a local hospital for treatment. His death was announced Wednesday morning.

Officers believe the vehicle involved in the crash likely has heavy front-end damage and substantial windshield damage, as well.

The motorist involved In the crash faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident causing death (felony), the police department said in an email to media. Additional charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
