Ahearn-Koch, Entler, Harshman Advance In City Commission Race: Sarasota Election Results

SARASOTA, FL — Three candidates in Tuesday night’s primary election have advanced to the general election for two Sarasota City Commission at-large seats, Sarasota city officials said in a news release.

The top three vote-getters in the primary, Jen Ahearn-Koch, Flo Entler and John Harshman, will vye for the two open seats on Nov. 3, the city said.

Ahearn-Koch earned 34.27 percent of the vote, while Entler earned 29.1 percent and Harshman took home 18.09 percent, according to unofficial results from the Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections office.

Other Key Races

Voters in Sarasota and across Sarasota County took to the polls in other key races Tuesday, including federal, state and local elections.

Sarasota County School Board

In Sarasota County school board races, Jimmy Glover took the lead with 43.53 percent of the vote, unofficial results show as of 11 p.m. on Tuesday.

His opponents Heidi Brandt and Teresa DeWitt received 31.72 percent and 24.76 percent of the vote, respectively.

In District 4, Megan Tennimon 55.11 percent of the vote, compared to her opponent, Frank DiCicco, who earned 44.89 percent, according to the unofficial results.

Beth Mayberry had the lead in District 5 with 56.63 percent of the vote, while her opponent, Michelle Pozzie, had 43.37 percent.

Sarasota County Commission

Incumbent Mark Smith held the lead over his opponent in the Sarasota County Board of County Commissioners District 2 race on Tuesday night.

Smith earned 53.32 percent of the vote while his opponent, Kristina Sargent, took home 46.68, the unofficial results show, as of 11:0 5 p.m.

Both candidates are Republicans, and since there is no Democratic candidate in the race, the primary winner earns the seat.

In the District 4 Republican primary, challenger Jim DeNiro held a lead over incumbent Joe Neunder, according to the unofficial results.

DeNiro won 53.2 percent of the vote, compared to Neunder’s 46.8 percent, the unofficial results show as of 11:05 p.m.

The winner in this race faces the Democratic nominee, Julie London, in the Nov. 3 general election.
