The west side of the Myrtle Street-Old Bradenton Road intersection will be temporarily closed Monday, October 14 through Friday, October 18 while utilities are installed under the road. The east and westbound lanes of Myrtle Street on the west side of Old Bradenton Road will be closed around the clock during that period. The intersection temporarily will function as a 3-way intersection.
Drivers will be able to travel north and southbound on Old Bradenton Road and east and westbound on Myrtle Street only on the east side of the intersection.
The closure is necessary while a 12-inch water main is installed under Myrtle Street as part of the ongoing Old Bradenton Road improvements project. Although the closure is expected to take five business days (through October 18), there is a possibility the construction work could extend through Sunday, October 20.

The project includes reconfiguring Old Bradenton Road into a two-lane divided roadway, and constructing roundabouts at Myrtle Street as well as 47th Street. The project will be pedestrian and bicycle friendly, with sidewalks and bicycle lanes added on both sides of the road. Four SCAT bus shelters will be added along Old Bradenton Road, which is a major route for SCAT.
City staff has coordinated alternative bus routes with SCAT and the Sarasota County School District during the temporary road closure.
