Englewood Waterfront Restaurant Remains Closed Due To Red Tide

The Beach Road Wine Bar & Bistro in Englewood closed its doors Aug. 28 because of red tide in the area and plans to reopen Tuesday.

ENGLEWOOD, FL — A waterfront restaurant and bar near Manasota Key shut its doors Aug. 28 because of the presence of red tide in the area.

The Beach Road Wine Bar & Bistro in Englewood announced its temporary closure on Facebook, calling it a "hard decision."

Initially, the restaurant was set to reopen Wednesday, but later decided it would open to the public again Tuesday, after the Labor Day holiday.

"Sorry to say the red tide just isn’t getting any better...We are trying to be optimistic and taking one day at a time," the restaurant posted to its Facebook page.

It also shared a picture of a “Red Tide Notice” displayed in one of the restaurant’s windows.

The water at Englewood Beach was clear with no drift algae, dead fish or beach debris and slight respiratory irritation noted Friday, according to Mote Marine Laboratory’s Beach Reporting System.

High levels of red tide were found alongshore and inshore at Manasota Beach and Blind Pass Beach Aug. 23, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s Red Tide Status report.
