Refined Italian on Palm Avenue

The name may say European but the cuisine at Aria is definitely Italian.

Giorgi Oldano, who previously operated Da Giorgio Ristorante on Anna Maria Island, recently opened Aria in the former Zak’s Steakhouse location on Palm Avenue. A circa 1926 building, the new home to Aria is warm, inviting, cozy, and just oozes charm. For those interested in alfresco dining, there is an equally charming courtyard area.

The menu at Aria is large but not overwhelming. There are a range of hot and cold appetizers, salads, entrees and desserts. For our meals we chose the following:

• Calamaretti in Brodetto:
  Sauteed baby squid with garlic, white wine and basil served with lightly spiced tomato sauce. $8.50
  An excellent rendition showcasing tender calamari in a light, flavorful, tomato based broth which is an excellent accompaniment to the crusty bread.
• Rollatine di Melanzana: Thin slices of eggplant stuffed with mozzarella and prosciutto. $7.50
  Simple in presentation with layers of flavor and texture. Very nice.
• Brochette “Aria”: Fish skewer grilled with scallops, lobster and shrimp, served over saffron risotto. $32.50
  A signature dish with a dramatic flaming presentation. Rich, creamy and flavorful.
• Bonnet: Chocolate, coffee and amaretto custard. $6.50
  Light, flavorful, luscious understated deliciousness

The wait staff was professional, knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. Aria offers a full range of soft drinks, beer and wine to accompany your meal.

Opening a new restaurant is a challenge. Even an experienced restaurateur will experience some "wrinkles." In fact we experienced some of Aria’s start-up “wrinkles” on our 1st visit.  With the start-up phase in the rear-view mirror, Aria is now making a name for itself in Sarasota.

Aria European, the name says European, the food Italian, the dining experience delightful!
