Reminder: Buses, Cops Hit the Road Next Week

Motorists are being reminded to exercise caution as kids return to school.

As Tampa Bay area school children prepare for those first bells next week, law enforcement agencies are warning motorists to exercise caution behind the wheel.

Agencies throughout the Tampa Bay area are asking motorists to plan for more frequent stops courtesy of buses, to keep their eyes open for kids and to slow down in school zones. They’re also warning motorists that officers and deputies plan to be out in force as school beings.

The Sarasota Police Department is one of the agencies that plans to have a visible presence in school zones next week. It’s even created a public service announcement video to offer drivers tips for staying safe and staying out of trouble.

“As students head back to school, the Sarasota Police Department wants to remind drivers there is a zero tolerance policy beginning Monday for speeding in school zones and passing school buses that have stop signs extended for students boarding or leaving the bus,” the agency wrote in an email to media.

School begins Monday in Sarasota, Pinellas, Pasco and Manatee counties. Classes resume on Tuesday in Hillsborough County.
