Reminder: Sarasota Medieval Fair Opens Saturday

Visitors will get to watch a showdown between Robert the Bruce and England's Edward II.

Tampa Bay area residents are invited to step back in time at the 12th annual Sarasota Medieval Fair.

This year’s event officially kicks off Saturday, Nov. 7, and runs for three consecutive weekends. Guests will find themselves transported back to the year 1314 when King of Scotts Robert the Bruce faced off against England’s Edward II in the famous Battle of Bennockburn.

While the historic battle is the theme for the entire three-weekend run, visitors will find the reenactment isn’t the only attraction. Fair organizers promise lots of “jousting, wenches, medieval games, rides, demonstrations,” and more.

The fair also welcomes a new jousting troupe, The Knights of Valour, this year. The troupe, featuring Shane Adams, has been featured on History Channel’s “Full Metal Jousting.” Other live entertainment is planned throughout the event and lots of vendors are lined up to sell goods. Food, this year, has also been revamped to include a blend of American favorites alongside “true Scottish foods.”

The fair takes place Nov. 7-8, Nov. 14-15, and Nov. 21-22. The annual event is staged, rain or shine, in Ringling Woods at 3000 Ringling Blvd. Open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., tickets begin at $17.95 for adults, $15.95 for seniors, students and military, and $8.95 for kids ages 5 to 12. Seasonal passes are also available for $52.95.
