Residents Asked To Conserve Water In Sarasota Area: County

SARASOTA COUNTY, FL — Due to water distribution system challenges, unincorporated Sarasota County residents are asked to conserve water.

Sarasota county initially issued the water conservation request on Friday. Over the weekend, “water system pressures remained relatively stable,” according to a county news release.

The county has been experiencing high water demands and some areas are seeing lower water pressure in their communities, said Mike Mylett, the county’s public utilities director.

While there is enough water supply for unincorporated Sarasota County, distribution issues have caused low water pressure in some neighborhoods.

"Our customers do not need to worry about a water shortage. We are simply asking them to partner with us by using best conservation practices and limiting outside water use," Mylett said.

He added, “Public Utilities staff are implementing contingency plans to bolster water pressures throughout the distribution system.”

The county suggests the following conservation practices:

• Reducing landscaping and lawn watering
• Reducing laundering and taking shorter showers
• Upgrading faucets and showerheads to higher-efficiency fixtures
