Bradenton Area Saw More Than 50 New Eateries In Past Year

More than 50 new restaurants and food trucks opened in the Bradenton area in the past year. The Bradenton Herald compiled a list of them.

New York-Style Deli Opening In Former Overton Location

Well-known local chef Sol Shenker is opening a New York-style deli in the space formerly occupied by The Overton in the Rosemary District at 1420 Boulevard of the Arts.

Shenker has previously been involved in two other Jewish delis, Wolfie Cohen's Rascal House in South Florida and Jerry's Famous Deli in California, according to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.

In Sarasota, "The food is going to be over-the-top. The Rascal House recipes and Jerry's Deli recipes and mine, the three recipes combined, it's going to be off the charts,” he said.

Big Olaf Creamery Sued Over Listeria Outbreak That Killed 1

Sarasota-based Big Olaf Creamery is facing two lawsuits after the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention linked it to a national listeria outbreak that left one person dead and 22 hospitalized across 10 states.

Atria Launches Dinner Concept

Previously open just for breakfast and lunch in Lakewood Ranch, Atria Bread + Coffee expanded its hours in June with an evening menu. The restaurant serves sourdough pizza and wine Tuesdays through Saturdays from 5 to 8:30 p.m.

Atria’s sourdough pizza is made in-house and fermented for a minimum of 24 hours, just like their bread, the restaurant shared on its Facebook page.

The eatery also explained why it doesn’t serve pizza during the day and has created a new menu for its evening experience.

“We see a need for more local restaurants in our growing area. We want to meet that need by creating a unique evening experience that you can enjoy regularly,” Atria wrote. “We have a completely different menu from day to night. During the day, we use the atrium (bakery) for bread and pastries and at night it turns into a pizza kitchen.”

Mexican Restaurant Opened in Holmes Beach

Los Chiludos Fresh Mexican Grill recently opened in Holmes Beach. The restaurant is located in the Anna Maria Island Center at 3232 E. Bay Drive.

The eatery’s owners, Tera and Jose Lemus, vacationed on AMI for years before moving to the Bradenton from Pittsburgh in March.

“We started vacationing on Anna Maria Island about seven years ago and fell in love with the island,” Tera told the Bradenton Herald.
