Venice City Council Election, Longboat Key Referendum: Sarasota County Unofficial Results

SARASOTA COUNTY, FL — Incumbent Helen Kirchner Moore and candidate Jim Boldt are leading the Venice City Council elections Tuesday night, based on unofficial results from the Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections.

As of 9:20 p.m., all nine precincts are reporting their results.

In the Seat 3 race, Kirchner Moore earned 4,708 votes. Her challenger, Sandy Sibley, received 3,881 votes.

Boldt got 4,298 votes in his bid for Seat 4. His closest opponent, Jen Lewis, received 3,436 votes, while Chris Simmons has 840 votes.

In the town of Longboat Key, residents considered a referendum determining the residential density of property in the Buttonwood Harbour neighborhood.

The owner of 597 Buttonwood Drive is seeking permission to increase the density from office-institutional uses, which allows no density, to R-3SF zoning, which will allow a maximum of three residential units to be built on the land. The owner plans to only build two residential units on the property.

As of 9:20 pm., 887 residents voted in favor of the density change, while 438 opposed it.
