SARASOTA, FL — A Sarasota deputy recently gave a dose of “tough love” to a 14-year-old e-motorcyclist, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a social media post.
The sheriff’s office posted a video of the deputy’s encounter with the boy, calling it, “Tough Love with a Traffic Sergeant: A Series.” (Watch the video below.)
In the video, the deputy spots several teens on e-bikes weaving in and out of traffic on a busy road.

He makes the teen get off the bike, sit on the curb and, later, remove his helmet.
“What is wrong with you,” the deputy asked.
He informs the boy that operating an e-motorcycle without registration and a license is illegal, and it’s also illegal to ride it on the road.
“Let me ask you: do you want to go to jail? Do you know you can go to jail,” the deputy asked the boy.
He also said he didn’t want to have to tell his parents that he died because of his unsafely riding it on the road.
“Kids might think we’re mean, but parents would see this as passionate. We are passionate about the safety of your kids and ours,” the sheriff’s office wrote in the post.
