Sarasota Drowning Under Investigation

The incident happened Tuesday evening at Centennial Park.

The Sarasota Police Department is investigating a drowning that occurred Tuesday evening at the Centennial Park.

According to the police department, two men spent much of Tuesday drinking alcohol at the park near 10th Street and Tamiami Trail. Around 6 p.m., the men decided to take a swim for nearly an hour. One of the men noticed the other was unresponsive and a witness from a nearby condo community called 911.

When police arrived on the scene, rescue efforts were unsuccessful, the police department said in an email to media.

The name of the victim has not been released.
