Sarasota Fugitives Captured in Colorado

They were wanted in connection with a November robbery on Siesta Key Beach.

The long arm of the law had to reach far to capture two Sarasota men wanted in connection with a battery and robbery on Siesta Key Beach in early November, but reach it did.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office reports that law enforcement caught up with Carlton McMillian and Vincent Franks, both 21, in Aurora, Colo., during a search of a warehouse on Wednesday. The two are accused of punching two victims on the beach back in November and stealing a crossbow.

Deputies say McMillan and Franks fled the beach on foot following the incident, leaving their car and a woman behind. That woman, a media release from the sheriff’s office stated, provided deputies with their identities.

McMillan and Franks are said to have traveled through several states since that November crime occurred, but a tip from the Sarasota sheriff’s office sent to the U.S. Marshal’s Violent Felony Offender Task Force in Denver on Wednesday ended their time on the run.

Both men are now being housed at the Adams County Jail in Colorado, awaiting extradition to Florida. Both face robbery charges and McMillan is also charged with battery.
