Sarasota Man Killed in Pedestrian Crash

The accident happened late Thursday night.

A 59-year-old Sarasota man is dead following a fatal crash on Myrtle Street near Goodrich Avenue.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 11:35 p.m. Thursday as Sydney Martin, 20, was heading westbound on Myrtle Street in a Toyota Tercel. Martin was just east of the intersection with Goodrich Avenue when a man walked in front of her vehicle.

Martin, troopers wrote in a report, was unable to stop in time to avoid the man. The front left corner of her vehicle struck him, causing fatal injuries.

The man has not yet been identified.

Troopers say no charges are pending in the accident.

“The area is dark with no street lights,” troopers noted in the report.
