Sarasota Police Go Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

They're showing their support for those who have fought the battle.

Sarasota residents who see cops with pink badges don’t have to worry that they’ve run into the latest law enforcement impersonator.

The Sarasota Police Department has authorized its officers to “go pink” in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, according to an email from the city. Throughout the month of October, officers can wear pink badges or place pink mourning bands on their badges. The display is meant to show officers’ support for both women and men fighting the disease and to honor and remember those who have lost the fight.

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women, according to the American Cancer Society.
