
Update Oct. 21, 11:36 a.m.: A father home alone with his 11-year-old child fought back against an armed home invader early Tuesday morning.
According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, the incident unfolded around 5:40 a.m. when resident Christopher Bane, 36, heard someone breaking into his 2130 Ernie Shank Court home. Bane armed himself and then confronted the intruder in the home’s hallway. The man shot at Bane, who returned fire, an email from the sheriff’s office stated.
While the intruder’s shot didn’t hit its mark, Bane’s did. The man was killed in the exchange of bullets.

Deputies have identified the intruder as Calvin Yoder, 22, of 2407 Booker Ave. in Sarasota. Yoder was arrested back in May on a domestic battery charge and also has a criminal record in Manatee County.

Earlier: The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that occurred early Tuesday morning.
Deputies were called out to the 2100 block of Ernie Shank Court around 5:40 a.m. and found a man’s body inside.
While deputies are still investigating the case, they say the incident appears isolated. They do not believe the investigation will have any impact on nearby Booker Elementary School.
