Sarasota foster teens get job training from AT&T

About 20 teens in the Sarasota foster system spent the day on Thursday learning job readiness skills and touring the AT&T store on Fruitville Road.

As part of its education commitment to help more students graduate from high school and get ready for careers and college, AT&T in partnership with the Florida Department of Children and Families and Sarasota Y/Safe Children Coalition hosted a “Skills to Go” program in Sarasota for local foster and independent living youth.

The participants learned about the importance of good budgeting, managing finances and balancing checking and saving accounts. They also learned about creating resumes, filling out job applications and how to handle themselves during a job interview during the five-hour program.

After the classroom presentations, the students toured the AT&T store on Fruitville Road where they met managers and staff and learned about the types of job skills required for a career in sales and technology.

“Skills to Go” is part of the AT&T Aspire initiative to help at-risk students become college and workforce ready. AT&T Aspire has impacted more than 1 million high school students in all 50 states since its launch in 2008.
