School Bus Carrying 25 Children Hit by a Car in Manatee County

A car crashed into a school bus carrying 25 children around 2:46 p.m. Tuesday on 18th St. in Manatee County. No one was hurt.

William Pennuto, 61, was driving a 1996 Dodge Ram when his car hit the back of the bus while it was stopped to let children out, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Pennuto was behind the bus when the driver, Donald Wilson Jr., 58 of Palmetto, set off lights warning that the bus would stop. Pennuto did not stop, but did try to swerve into traffic to avoid hitting the bus, Florida Highway Patrol said.

The front left side of the Dodge Ram hit the back of the bus. Pennuto has been charged with careless driving.
