'School Gunna Be Lit Tomorrow': Teen Arrested For Alleged Threat

Deputies said the Sarasota high school student posted a photo of a gun with the wording on social media.

SARASOTA, FL – A 15-year-old Riverview High School student was arrested after allegedly posting a violent threat against his school on the social media platform Snapchat, officials said today.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office said it was notified Tuesday after 10 p.m. that the juvenile reportedly posted a photo of what appeared to be a gun with text that read, “School gunna be lit tomorrow.”

Deputies went to the teen's Sarasota home, questioned him and determined the weapon was an airsoft gun. He was arrested on one felony count of suspicion of threats to kill or do bodily harm, the agency said.

“This incident should serve as a strong reminder to young people that threats, no matter how they are delivered, are taken seriously by law enforcement,” Sheriff Tom Knight said. “Parents should continue to teach their children how to responsibly use social media and, as always, if they see or hear something suspicious, report it immediately.”
