Sharon Kunkel earns Certified Public Relations Counselor credential

Local practitioner undergoes rigorous process to achieve certification, showcasing knowledge, skills, and dedication to ethical practices

The Florida Public Relations Association’s Central West Coast chapter is pleased to announce that Sharon Kunkel, APR, CPRC has earned her Certified Public Relations Counselor credentials from the Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA).

Kunkel is the president of Wordslinger Marketing & PR, an independent agency. The Tufts University (Boston, Mass.) graduate began her professional career in the early 1990s as a journalist, writing and serving in editorial roles. She then held marketing, communications and development positions with organizations including the Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee, Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida, and the Community Foundation of Sarasota County.

She launched Wordslinger Marketing & PR in 2014 and, since that time, has focused primarily on nonprofit clients and projects in areas including the arts, social services, education, the environment, and more. She is a longtime member of CWC-FPRA and has held numerous board positions since serving as VP of Communications in 2016-2017. Chapter highlights for Kunkel have included recognition as CWC-FPRA’s “Member of the Year” in 2017, being named to the 2017 Joe Curley Rising Leader Class of the FPRA and being awarded a “Grand Golden Image Award” – for a nonprofit project that received worldwide news coverage –during the FPRA Annual Conference in 2022.

“My professional experience over the past 25 years has encompassed a wide range of industries and communications specialties but it has been my involvement with the Central West Coast chapter of FPRA that has taken my skills and passion for PR to entirely new levels,” said Kunkel. “I am so grateful to my CWC peers for being reliable sources for information, encouragement, and inspiration over the course of my professional journey.”

FPRA developed the CPRC credential in 1974 to recognize advanced professional growth and achievement among senior-level PR practitioners. In receiving the designation of Counselor, Kunkel joins an elite group of public relations professionals statewide who have proven their ability to counsel during a variety of public relations scenarios while exhibiting high levels of public relations practices and exemplary ethical standards.
