Sheriff’s Deputy Charged With Aggravated Stalking: Police

Deputy with the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office has been charged with aggravated stalking in a domestic incident, North Port police said.

NORTH PORT, FL — A deputy with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office has been charged with aggravated stalking, North Port police said in a Facebook post.

Police executed an arrest warrant for 31-year-old David Motz Wednesday morning.

He was booked into Charlotte County Jail with no bond. His first appearance is set for Thursday, police said.

The domestic incident surrounds Motz’s actions over the course of years and involves a female victim, police said.

“As law enforcement officers we should always rise above any standards set. That makes it even more disturbing when an officer of the law, who is put in a position of public trust, abuses it,” Chief Todd Garrison said. “Our focus and efforts are owed to making sure the victim in this case feels safe and protected. We all have equal protections under the law. That also goes for those who break it, regardless of where they are employed.”
