Sheriff On Terrorism: 'Enough is Enough'

The Florida law enforcement official is encouraging residents to take a stand against terrorism.

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey is fed up with political correctness and he’s taking a stand to make sure residents in his community are prepared to defend themselves should the need arise.

“I’ve had enough of terrorists and others deciding to target U.S. citizens,” Ivey said in a 6-minute video released on his agency’s Facebook page Sunday. Stressing that if a terrorist attack or active shooter situations can happen in California, Texas or Paris, it could happen in Brevard or anywhere, Ivey encouraged law enforcement and citizens “to be ready.”

To that end, Ivey asked residents with legal concealed weapons permits to consider carrying their weapons.

“You and you alone may very well be the first line of defense for you, your family and others around you,” he said. “This is about being able to defend and survive an attack by armed, evil people until the cavalry arrive.”

For those uncomfortable with firearms, he recommended following three options should they ever encounter an active shooter situation:

  • Run
  • Hide
  • Fight – “If you are unable to escape, fight with every ounce of passion you have,” he advised.

Ivey insists his stand isn’t “about politics, religion, race, ethnicity or social status.” Instead, he said, it is time to stop reacting and instead “proactively engage” those who threaten and to “target terrorists.”

He also said it’s long past time for “PC to become the acronym for protecting citizens.”

Ivey noted the law enforcement response time in last week’s deadly shooting spree in San Bernardino, Calif., was about 4 minutes. In that time, the two shooters were able to kill 14 people and injure many others.

“The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,” Ivey said.
