Shopping Center Shooting: Victim Dies, Sarasota Police Seek Witnesses
Detectives want to speak with anyone who might have witnessed the fatal Friday morning shooting at Sarasota Commons.

SARASOTA, FL — The victim in the Friday morning shooting at Sarasota Commons, a shopping center in the 900 block of N. Beneva Road, has died from their injuries, according to a Sarasota Police Department news release.
The victim was pronounced dead at a local hospital later that day.

The shooting happened around 11:30 a.m. at the shopping plaza, which is located at the intersection of Beneva and Fruitville roads.
Detectives would like to speak with anyone who was at the scene and witnessed the shooting.

This includes a person who was wearing glasses and a tie-dye shirt who spoke with a uniformed officer, police said.

The 158,000-square-foot shopping center is two miles from downtown Sarasota and a one-half mile from the Meadows neighborhood, which has more than 3,400 homes, according to Commodore Realty.
The plaza has 30 tenants, including anchor tenants Bravo, Sherwin-Williams, Amped Fitness and United States Postal Service, Commodore said.
