Shooting Suspect Charged With Aggravated Battery: Sarasota Police
The suspect called 911 Sunday to report the shooting and remained at the scene to speak with investigators, Sarasota police said.

SARASOTA, FL — A suspect has been arrested for a Sunday afternoon shooting in Sarasota, authorities said.
Nevaun Chamberlain, 23, of Sarasota County was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, according to a Sarasota Police Department news release. He was later released on bond.
Officers responded to the shooting in the 1800 block of 34th Street, near the intersection of Johns Rivers Street, just after 5 p.m.

There was one victim, who had a gunshot wound in the abdomen, police said. Their name is protected under Marsy’s Law.
The victim took themselves to Sarasota Memorial Hospital before police arrived at the scene. They have since been discharged from the hospital.

Chamberlain, who called 911 to report the shooting, stayed at the scene to speak with detectives.
Based on evidence from the scene and after consultation with the state attorney’s office, investigators “do not believe this qualified as a justifiable use of deadly force,” SPD said.
The shooting remains under investigation.
